The young Nîmes handball players from d’Alzon crowned vice-champions of France UNSS!

Les 4e-3e du collège d’Alzon à Nîmes ont brillamment représenté leur établissement lors des phases finales du championnat de France UNSS handball à Celles-sur-Belle.

"It’s a very, very good result, they fought like lions. They finished first in their group and only lost one match… the final. But they have nothing to regret!" Adriana Suta, head of the Nîmes handball sports section, is very proud. Since Tuesday, June 4, the junior boys and girls teams from the Alzon handball sports section were traveling to Celles-sur-Belle (79) to participate in the French UNSS championships.

"The boys gave it their all"

For the girls, we were there with a first qualification which looks promising for the years to come with an 11th place achieved. For the boys, this year 2024 marked the third participation in these final phases. After a fifth and thirteenth place, here are the young Nîmes vice-champions of France, beaten by their Dijon counterparts 18-20 in the final. "There is nothing to say , they were better than us, but the boys gave everything!", Adriana Suta advances, satisfied. Who would like to salute the valuable contribution of Pierre Montagut, the Gard handball committee and Grégoire Détrez, former European champion pivot with the French team and who now takes care of young people within the Usam.

A partnership agreement with Usam

The Nîmes handball club has recently signed a partnership agreement with the Alzon establishment, allowing "continuity of& rsquo;learning the sport of handball study, for 8 years already at d’Alzon, and now this year to open two real handball sports sections within the Emmanuel d’Institut d’ rsquo;Alzon". Additional hours have been released so that young people have more time to train and benefit from personalized coaching. More than 100 students , middle and high school students are enrolled in the handball section and train three times a week.
