Theft of security plans for the 2024 Olympics: a man sentenced to 7 months in prison and the bag found empty

An engineer from the City of Paris had a bag stolen containing a computer and two USB keys containing sensitive security plans for the Paris Olympic Games. The thief was tried in immediate appearance this Friday March 1 and sentenced to seven months in prison. 

Five months before the launch of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, a Paris town hall employee filed a complaint on February 26 after his bag was stolen on a train in Paris. In it were a laptop and two USB keys containing documents presented as plans for securing the Olympics.

After several days of investigation, the police managed to arrest a suspect. The latter, aged 23, is already known for acts of theft committed in a means of transport, told TF1 the Paris prosecutor's office this Saturday, March 2.

Parking space plans

The suspect was tried in immediate appearance this Friday, March 1st. Prosecuted for "theft committed in a vehicle used for the transport of passengers", "receiving property resulting from a theft",  and &quot ;refusing to submit his telephone code to the judicial authorities, he was sentenced to 7 months' imprisonment. 

Only the bag, empty, was found, but the computer and USB keys remain nowhere to be found. According to the City of Paris contacted on Wednesday by Le Parisien, the stolen computer only "contained notes taken from internal uses, relating to [the victim's] work in the IT mission of the roads and travel department. In other words, the bag did not a priori contain any sensitive data, but simply "maps of parking spaces".
