Since the beginning of April 2024, two men have been wanted by the police for throwing unique rocks into the void in Lake Mead National Park in the United States.

This is a video posted online on social networks which is causing controversy. In the images, probably dating from April 7, two men can be seen destroying 140 million year old red rocks in Lake Mead National Park, between Nevada and Arizona, throwing them into the void, reports the television channel Fox 5 Vegas.

A call for witnesses launched

The acts committed on this historic site, which sees nearly six million visitors per year, have deeply shocked. After discovering the images, park rangers decided to launch a call for witnesses in the hope that Internet users will be able to identify the suspects. "If you were on the Redstone Dunes Trail on the evening of Sunday, April 7, 2024, or if you have information that could help identify the suspects , please contact investigators, they wrote.

The perpetrators of these acts could receive a fine of several thousand dollars as well as be sentenced to prison, reports Le Parisien.

The destruction of these rocks has been described as appalling""  by John Haynes, national park spokesperson. "It’s so beautiful, it’s one of my favorite places in the park and they are up there destroying it. I don't understand. “It almost seems like a personal attack, in a way,” he said indignantly.
