This last worrying call made by one of the French women untraceable in Greece on the day of their disappearance

The families of the two French women who disappeared in Greece have not heard from each other for a week. But on Friday, June 14, one of them had a rather unsettling conversation with the manager of the hotel where she was staying.

Since Friday June 14, two French women have been missing on the island of Sikinos, in Greece. Searches are underway on this small Cyclades island to find Françoise Boutteaux and Marie-Pierre Arfel, aged 73 and 64. Five days after their disappearance, concern grew, and this Wednesday, June 19, two relatives of Marie-Pierre Arfel took the plane towards the island where she disappeared.

The relatives have not had any news since Wednesday, June 12. "I am the last to have had contact with they, tells TF1 Juliette, the niece of Marie-Pierre Arfel. It’was Tuesday evening, on the phone. But since Wednesday morning, we have more news."

In an exchange obtained by France Info,we discover that the day the two women, who had met there, disappeared, one of them, Françoise Boutteaux, had a telephone conversation with the owner of the hotel where she was staying.

She had indeed tried to reach the hotel three times around 6am. The owner explains that she finally answered at 8:24am when he called back he explains that he had difficulty communicating with the French tourist, because of the language barrier. “She spoke French, I only speak English and Greek. She didn't understand me, she looked lost,” he explains.

A photo of her lying down and then nothing

Then, in an exchange of messages, she says she fell and sends him a photo of herself lying down. Then nothing. An exchange that is all the more worrying because it would be the last time the French woman used her phone.

Local authorities have managed to determine the area where the two French women disappeared, in the south of the island. A search has been launched. Authorities fear the hikers were trapped in a steep, arid area.

Their disappearance comes amid a scorching heatwave in Greece. Three foreign tourists have been found dead in Greece in one week. Most of the people had been hiking in the blazing sun.
