Trio, the assistance dog, won over the students of the Joseph-Vallot high school

Trio fait preuve de patience et d’obéissance devant les lycéens.

This Thursday, April 25, the Handi’chiens association, recognized as being of public utility, came to present its action to the students of the Joseph-Vallot high school in Lodève. This activity followed the various events organized with teachers and AESH as part of the educational project on the theme of disability.

The opportunity for Dominique Borras, volunteer of the association and delegated to host families, to present to the students Trio, a labrador still in training. Once trained, at 2 years old, the dog will be able to perform its functions and understand more than 50 commands.

The dogs are tested

Trio a the right to enter all public places. Anyone who prevents this may be fined.

The dogs are first tested in the breeding farm or at the SPA. We are not going to select a dog that is too shy or too lively. It also depends on the role he will have to play: in an IME, the presence of the dog will calm you down. In a nursing home, he will help with animation. Brushing the dog is a rehabilitation exercise for the elderly person. We also find him in the justice system, he will then calm down during the hearings. It helps people in wheelchairs, can save someone who is having an epileptic attack. The students, attentive and interested, really wanted to caress the dog, but this is only possible when he does not have “his special cape”, so he is not working. . This training on the different forms of disability and the integration of people with disabilities is very educational for the students: they understand people in wheelchairs differently and also become aware of the existence of invisible disabilities. Nathalie Choillot, AESH very involved in the project, is convinced of this.
