A patrol to ensure the protection of turtles

#HERAULT – Early in the morning, when the beaches are deserted, volunteers from the Sauvegarde Hérault Littoral association go looking for possible traces of sea turtles on the beaches of Valras and Orpellières. Since 2017, the association has been working to protect biodiversity, and more recently has been monitoring turtle egg-laying since 95 baby turtles were born on Valras beach in 2022. “We have acquired a drone, which allows us to scan the beach in 15 minutes”, explains a volunteer. Even though it is rare to see turtles on the coasts, it is possible to see their tracks. If you see these tracks, contact the police to set up a security perimeter.

Rape in Mongolia: the legionnaire extradited

#AVEYRON – The investigating chamber of the Montpellier Court of Appeal decided, Friday July 19, 2024, to give a favorable opinion to the request for extradition of a legionnaire based in the Cavalry ( Aveyron), by the authorities of Mongolia. This 28-year-old soldier had fled his country for China, then France where he was engaged in the legion less than a year ago, after having been involved in a criminal matter without being incarcerated. DNA tests proved that in 2022, he had raped and impregnated his partner's sister, then aged 12. The authorities in Ulaanbaatar found him thanks to invoices paid on online sites. He was arrested and imprisoned in Hérault in mid-June. The soldier's lawyer had requested additional information to ensure that the rights of the defense would be respected in Mongolia where the death penalty was abolished in 2017. The favorable opinion was transmitted by the General Prosecutor's Office to the Chancellery with a view to the upcoming extradition decree.
