UN observers hit by Israeli strike in southern Lebanon

An Israeli strike hit a vehicle carrying United Nations observers and injured several outside the southern Lebanese border town of Rmeish on Saturday, two sources said security at Reuters.

Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee denied that Israeli forces hit a vehicle belonging to the UN peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon, UNIFIL. UNIFIL and the UN technical observation mission, UNTSO, did not immediately comment.

One of the security sources said the car was carrying three UN technical observers and a Lebanese translator. This source and a second security source said the Israeli strike injured several occupants of the vehicle. Israel has been exchanging fire with the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon for almost six months, parallel to the Gaza war.
