Martinique has been experiencing urban violence for several days due to a protest movement against the high cost of living. Police officers have been injured.

Martinique Prefect Jean-Christophe Bouvier announced on Wednesday, September 18, that he had introduced a nighttime curfew to limit movement in certain neighborhoods of Fort-de-France and Lamentin, due to the urban violence that has been shaking the island for several days.

The curfew, decided for a limited renewable period, will be in effect from Wednesday to Monday, September 23, between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. “This ban does not does not apply to people working on public service missions, assisting people in need of care, supplying businesses or for travel related to a justified professional activity”, is however specified in a press release.
