American President Joe Biden and his predecessor Donald Trump dominated the Democratic and Republican primaries this Tuesday, March 5, on the occasion of "Super Tuesday", during which fifteen states and one American territory vote simultaneously

Donald Trump won the Republican primaries in around ten states, notably in California and Texas which have many delegates, which suggests that he is now practically guaranteed to win the Republican nomination for the American presidential election next November.

Nikki Haley leads in Vermont

His only rival, the former United States Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley who has so far only won one of the previous elections, is given the lead in the state of Vermont, according to projections from Edison Research.

More than a third of the delegates who will be called upon to choose the name of the Republican candidate during the convention next July (865 out of 2,429) will be designated at the end of the Tuesday's polls.

In his victory speech, delivered from his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, Donald Trump attacked Joe Biden's immigration policies , calling his successor the "worst president" of history. "November 5 will go down as the most important day in the history of our country," Donald Trump said.

A threat to American democracy

Joe Biden, for his part, estimated in a press release that his predecessor represented a threat to American democracy. "Tonight's results give Americans a very simple choice: Will we continue to move forward or will we let Donald Trump plunge us into chaos, division and darkness as he has done? had done during his first term?", said the American president.

Joe Biden was predicted to win in many states, although activists called on Minnesota voters to choose "uncommitted" on the ballots to mark their opposition to the Democratic President's support for Israel in the war in the Gaza Strip.

The White House tenant easily won the Democratic primaries in 14 states, according to Edison Research projections.

Businessman Jason Palmer, however, won the American Samoa caucus with 51 votes to 40 for Joe Biden, according to the territory's Democratic Party. Few Americans, however, seem to want to see Joe Biden and Donald Trump face each other again in the presidential election. Polls show that their popularity ratings are low.
