A very large fire broke out this Thursday, April 18, at Ciudad Real airport in Spain. The fire destroyed an Airbus A330 which was being dismantled. Firefighters brought the flames under control and no injuries were reported.
An Airbus A330 caught fire at Ciudad Real airport in Spain this Thursday, April 18, 2024. The fire, which broke out at around noon, was reported by airport employees, reports La Tribuna de Ciudad Real.
Smoke visible as far as Madrid
According to local media, the fire started in the tail of the plane before reaching the fuselage. The aircraft was in an area storage intended to keep the planes until their dismantling. Stored there since September 2020, the Airbus A330 was being dismantled, indicates France 3 Occitanie.

The fire was finally brought under control around 1:30 p.m. No injuries were reported. According to the director of the tank farm, the "dense column of black smoke", caused by the’ fire, was visible from Madrid, which is about 200 km further north.
