Violence at La Dullague college, in Béziers: a complaint filed, a mother in police custody

Actions of “particular gravity”, according to Sophie Béjean, the rector of the Montpellier Academy. ANTONIA JIMENEZ – ML

This Monday, February 5, adults illegally entered the premises of the Dullague college. A supervisor and a student were victims of verbal and physical violence. At least one of the perpetrators, a mother of a student, is in police custody.

This Monday, February 5, around 10 a.m., four adults illegally entered the premises of the Dullague college, in Béziers. Once in the hall, some verbally and physically attacked a supervisor and a student.

The principal of the college, Sandrine Libes, filed a complaint with the Béziers police station.  Catherine Come, the academic director of the national education services of Hérault (Dasen), made a report under article 40 of the code of criminal procedure to the prosecutor of the Republic "so that all light can be shed on this event and so that sanctions can be taken".

One of the three women involved in the intrusion and the violence found herself in police custody on Monday. As for Sophie Béjean, the rector, she "condemns with the greatest firmness these unacceptable and particularly serious actions.

The departmental council is committed to securing the entrance

She "brings  all his support to the educational team of the establishment and also thanks Catherine Come, for going there at 2 p.m. to take stock of the situation and show the support of the academic services for victims and staff.

The Hérault departmental council was also alerted. "The community is also committed to strengthening, without delay, the security of the establishment", specifies the Academy in a press release. Which is what everything requires the college staff, who immediately exercised their right of withdrawal.

The academic mobile security teams (EMAS) will be deployed as soon as possible. this Tuesday, February 6, in the establishment, to allow classes to resume in a climate of serenity. A listening and support unit will also be set up.

Teachers want REP ranking +

Finally, the rectorate recalls that "additional resources were allocated in September 2023 to the college, to respond to the difficulties detected, both in terms of school life  but also with the opening of an additional division in order to reduce the numbers per class. The rector confirms that "this specific attention paid to La Dullague'will be long-term".

Teachers would like a lot more resources. They have been demonstrating for a long time for  that the Béziers establishment be classified as a priority REP + network.
