New assessment in Odessa, Zelensky reacts
This Saturday, March 2, we announced at least seven people, including a three-year-old child, were killed Saturday in a Russian drone attack against an apartment building in the port city of ;#39;Odessa, in southern Ukraine, Kiev authorities said. In the aftermath of this attack, the number of victims now rises to eight.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the deaths could have been avoided if Ukraine did not face delays in arms deliveries. & ;quot; When lives are lost and partners only play games of domestic politics or bicker, limiting our defense capabilities, it's impossible to understand", he said.
Volodymyr Zelensky also took advantage of his daily speech to send a strong message to the new chief of staff of the Ukrainian army, Oleksandr Syrsky.
"The chief of staff has carte blanche to make changes within the personnel of the army, in the headquarters, for any changes", said the Ukrainian president. "The world knows that terrorism can be fought", he added. "Delaying the supply of weapons to Ukraine, missile defense systems (necessary) to protect our people, unfortunately leads to such losses."
Germany accuses Russia of waging an "information war"
The German Defense Minister accused Russia this Sunday of waging an "information war" aimed at creating divisions within Germany after a leaked recording of the war in Ukraine.
Russian media on Friday published a 38-minute recording of a conference call by senior German military officials discussing weapons destined for Ukraine."The incident goes well beyond the interception and publication of a conversation", the minister said on Sunday German Defense Minister, Boris Pistorius. "This is part of an information war waged by [Russian President Vladimir] Putin." "This is a hybrid disinformation attack. It's about dividing. “It's about undermining our unity,” he added.
A spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry said on social media Friday that Moscow was demanding explanations from Germany, without giving further details. The Russian Embassy in Berlin did not respond to an emailed request for comment.
In the recording, meeting participants discuss the possible delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Kiev, a move that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has so far firmly rejected in public. . They also discuss the training of Ukrainian soldiers and possible military targets.
Speaking to the press, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov denounced on Saturday "sneaky projects of the Bundeswehr (armed forces German) came to light following the publication of this audio recording".
Russia says Ukraine launched 38 drones against Crimea
Russian air defense systems destroyed 38 drones launched by Ukraine early Sunday morning over the Crimean Peninsula, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a message posted on Telegram. The ministry did not specify whether any casualties or damage had been reported.
Russian officials in Crimea had indicated earlier that traffic had been considerably restricted near the port of Feodosia. Traffic was also interrupted for two hours on the bridge linking the Ukrainian peninsula annexed by Moscow in 2014 to Russian territory, before resuming around 1:40 a.m. GMT, Russian officials based in Crimea indicated on Telegram.
Residents of Feodosia reporting that powerful explosions had been heard in the area of the port and an oil depot on Sunday around 2 a.m. local time (11 p.m. GMT Saturday), were quoted on Russian and Ukrainian social networks. Ukrainian authorities did not immediately comment.
