Une étude publiée ce 24 avril 2024 avance que plusieurs dizaines de grandes marques, connues du grand public, seraient responsables d’au moins 50 % de la pollution mondiale.

The alert was given this Wednesday by Sciences Advances. After collecting millions of waste plastics in several dozen countries around the world, researchers explain that the materials as well as the practices of more than fifty brands are responsible for more than half of the pollution in the world, reports the Huffington Post.

Coca-Cola in the lead

To carry out this study, two million pieces of waste, ranging from food packaging to cigarette packets, not forgetting plastic bottles, were collected in 84 countries across the globe between&nbsp ;2018 and 2022.

Although traceability in order to trace the origin of production is complex, scientists have still managed to find six major brands, which alone represent a quarter of the pollution in the world. These are two tobacco brands, namely Philip Morris and Altria, then come Danone and Nestlé, in second place we find PespiCo. In the lead, by far, with 11% of plastic pollution, the very famous Coca-Cola drink brand.

"A need for transparency and traceability"

"We care about the impact of every beverage we sell and are committed to growing our business the right way", Coca-Cola defended itself, contacted by The Guardian. The multinational added: rsquo;be committed to making "100 % of its packaging recyclable at scale world by 2025 and to use at least 50% recycled materials in its packaging by 2030".

The "need transparency and traceability" seems essential for researchers.& nbsp;"We need to know who produces what, so they can take responsibility&quot ;, the scientists continued.
