Why is it dangerous to use an unofficial adapter to charge your phone ?
|Charging your phone with an unofficial adapter is not dangerous in itself, provided that it complies with safety standards.
Sometimes manufacturers don't provide a charger with smartphones, forcing users to buy one. They can choose between an adapter from the same brand as their phone or a third-party model, reports BFM.
Using an unofficial charger is not inherently dangerous, as long as it complies with safety standards. Apple states that third-party power adapters can be used to charge an iPhone if they meet regulations.
Poor quality
However, some cheap chargers can be of poor quality and dangerous. In 2020, UFC-Que Choisir tested 20 affordable adapters and found that only 4 met safety standards. Eight of these chargers had serious design flaws, posing fire risks.
Poor-quality chargers can also cause electrocution. In November 2022, a charger sold in France was recalled due to this risk. It is therefore recommended to purchase quality chargers from approved brands.
CE marking
To ensure the quality of a charger, check for the presence of the CE marking, which indicates that the product complies with EU safety, health and environmental protection requirements.
