With the Summer Quarters system, “social ties” created for young people from priority neighborhoods in Bagnols-sur-Cèze and Pont-Saint-Esprit

The sub-prefect of Gard, Mathias Nieps, traveled on Thursday July 18 to Bagnols-sur-Cèze and Pont-Saint-Esprit to share activities offered as part of the Summer Quarters system , aimed at young people from priority neighborhoods and their families.

Thursday July 18, participants in the digital workshop, dedicated to e-reputation management, at the Digital Hive in Bagnols-sur-Cèze, shared their experience in the presence of the sub-prefect of Gard Mathias Nieps. In charge of city policy, the State representative traveled to Bagnols-sur-Cèze then to Pont-Saint-Esprit, to assess the implementation of a few activities of the Summer Quarters program, the winter counterpart of which was launched this year. Like these workshops or sports activities, with the Teens come alive. "We have an average of 34 children aged 11 to 14 per day for sport"Gaël Felix, Bagnolais coordinator of Ados s’animent, stressed on Thursday.

50,000 euros funded by the State for the Gard Rhodanien Summer Districts

"The State is funding up to 50,000 euros for these summer activities created in the priority districts of Gard Rhodanien, Les Escanaux, La Citadelle, Vigan-Braquet in Bagnols-sur-Cèze, and the old town centre of Pont-Saint-Esprit. In Gard, it’s 400 000 euros"  he recalled.

"The activities offered, carried out by the structures which work all year round in these neighborhoods, are very diverse in nature. They are intended for young people and their families. The objective is to create social bonds, to also allow them to positively re-appropriate the public space" explains Mathias Nieps, but also, "to leave their neighborhood. We have funded stays. Family activities are also an excuse to "work on the educational link".

A fresco of Olympic values

In Pont-Saint-Esprit, the sub-prefect's visit continued to the social life space where two days focused on the values ​​of the ;rsquo;Olympism, sharing and mutual aid. On the program: cooking, graffiti, and sport. Its president, Jean-Luc Cortial is delighted: "The aim of these days is to fight against social isolation. 70 people, young and old, shared a good time." With the highlight, the creation of a colorful fresco incorporating Olympic values.
