7,000 Sétois without complementary health insurance: the City is launching its own municipal mutual insurance company, find out how to benefit from it

Depuis le 1er janvier, les Sétois peuvent bénéficier d’une nouvelle offre de complémentaire santé négociée par la Ville. Explications.

On the occasion of the creation of the Local Health Contract, in conjunction with health, medico-social and social stakeholders, and in partnership with the ARS, a diagnosis among the population of Sète was carried out. showed that more than 7,000 Sétois do not have mutual insurance (supplemental health insurance) to date. A worrying figure (around 1 in 6 Sétois) which places these citizens in potentially dramatic situations with regard to the provision of care.

"This figure is a little higher than elsewhere, notes Joël Vernier, president of the French Federation Mutual Health Citizen. This also corresponds to stages of life: unemployment, retirement… which impact your membership or not to a mutual insurance company. Because if people give up on seeking treatment, it is because the widespread idea is that mutual insurance is expensive."

The objective, recalls Mayor François Commeinhes, is to respond to a public health problem. And in a context of inflation and decline in purchasing power, the creation of a municipal mutual is particularly relevant." The idea is therefore to take better care of oneself and avoid giving up or delaying care for financial reasons.

Communal mutual insurance: what are we talking about ?

A municipal mutual fund is a supplementary health insurance formula "which improves the provision of care in addition to social security payments under the compulsory scheme", specifies the City. Adapted to the needs of the residents of the municipality, "it offers the same guarantees as a classic individual supplementary mutual fund, but allows you to benefit from advantageous rates thanks to the potential number of beneficiaries". Nearly 3,000 French municipalities have already set up these municipal mutual societies, which leave citizens free to join or not. The City does not participate financially, nor does it receive remuneration from partner mutual societies.

Two mutuals retained

The town hall services have retained two partners. MUTAMI (merger of local mutuals including the mutual of Sète and the Thau basin, formerly mutual of Sète workers); and M.S.C. Sète, for Mutuelle Santé Citoyenne Sète (group made up of Nuoma mutual and the French mutual health citizen federation, both represented in Sète by LG3A Assurance).
A partnership agreement was signed last December to ensure the commitments of the two partners, namely good readability of their offer, maintenance of their prices without increase over the year 2024 and a mission of & rsquo;information, support and advice to the population.

Who can benefit from it ?

All residents of Sète are eligible without age limit and without medical questionnaire. The quote request is free. Three levels of protection are offered by the two partners, who each have an agency in Sète: minimum, medium and high coverage. For comparison, the 2024 annual contribution “Nuoma initial formula” amounts to 57.82 € for those aged 66 and over. Mutami displays its cheapest formula at 63.23 € for those aged 70 and over.
