"Being in the final package is the objective", MHSC VB president Jean-Charles Caylar believes his team is equipped to win

Interview with the Montpellier manager before his team's first home match against Nice, in the championship, Friday at 8 p.m. at the Palais des sports Chaban-Delmas in Castelnau-le-Lez.

After the success in the Super Cup against Saint-Nazaire (3-2) and the one in the championship in Tours (3-0), you can only be satisfied with the start of the season of your players…

The Super Cup was an opportunity to fill the trophy cabinet. I'm happy and I told the players so. Winning in Tours is always nice, especially 3-0. There are places like that where it's always good to win.

Do you think MHSC VB can hope to have a good season ?

I'm ambitious. We're involved in three competitions, we won the first one. Now we have to fight to win the two that remain, the championship and the Coupe de France. I think we should be in the final package, in any case that's the objective. We built a team with executives who have reached the age of maturity while integrating talented youngsters. I believe in them a lot. Of the 14 professional players, seven have been through the training center. I'm very proud of that. We are developing this family spirit like what the football club does.

Is it important for you to have this Montpellier identity??

It's something I aspire to, something I'm looking for. I really believe in stability and the image we project to the outside world. I'm happy with the evolution of the club and the team. I think we have the means to have a great season. But the important thing is that the players are convinced of it. The year we were crowned French champions, in 2022, the players told me they were going to do it.

What did they tell you this year ?

They are on a mission, they want to and feel that there is something to do. This group is doing well and has talent.

Are those who stayed seeking revenge for the end of last season and in particular the failed act in the Coupe de France final (3-0 defeat against Nantes) ?

We have learned a lesson and we are learning. We have failed on several levels: the club in the organization and logistics, Loic Le Marrec in his management, the players in their performance… The Coupe de France has never been won by the club but it will happen to us one day.

At the time of launching this new adventure, how is the club doing ?

MHSC VB is doing well, it lives within its means without being excessive. We have the fifth budget in the men's League A with 1,850,000 euros. We have put the sports part in the best conditions. Now, we must continue to build the club. Our current topic is how to develop economic activities around our sport.
