Alès: bees and flowers... with a whole program to safeguard nature

À Rousson, une ruche-école en pleine campagne forme des apiculteurs amateurs, en suivant les conseils de l’association Les champs d’apibio.

At a time when global warming and loss of biodiversity are among the recurring topics in the news, the association Les champs d’apibio, based in the town of Rousson, has been active since several years and sounds the alarm. The vice-president, Pierre de Chastellier, recalls: "The association aims to defend biodiversity and pollinators with several actions, the main of which is the training of amateur beekeepers to have a few hives at the bottom of their garden, and ensure that the bees do not die in the first year." Like so many educational tips to disseminate to budding beekeepers.

An active pedagogy

However, it is at the local level that the action takes place with popularization conferences and the school hive located in the countryside. "We have around fifteen hives, in two formats, for the trainees who meet here, from April to September, during the main period of bee activity.&quot ; A training course that just needs to prosper, while allowing members to benefit from preferential rates to increase awareness among schoolchildren in particular. "And make young people aware of what is currently happening between insects and flowers. With the emphasis on the danger represented by the Asian hornet, a real scourge." It’is therefore a field action that the association is proposing by pointing out the sharp decline in populations of ;rsquo;insects "whose dramatic consequences are measured on a daily basis: on the one hand, the genetic heritage of flowers is no longer renewed, limiting their capacity to adapt to changes, particularly climatic changes. And on the other hand, no longer needing to attract pollinators, the flowers reduce their nectar production…" A cry that the association wishes carry far away for the happiness of insects, flowers… and humans.
