An unexpected duo: Gabriel Attal joins forces with Miss France to encourage girls to study mathematics

À l'occasion de la journée mondiale des mathématiques, le Premier ministre s'est affiché dans une vidéo avec Miss France, qu'il choisit comme "ambassadrice" pour encourager les filles à étudier les mathématiques. 

On the occasion of World Mathematics Day, which was held this Thursday, March 14, Prime Minister Gabriel Attal appeared in a video posted on the Instagram account… of Miss France 2024, Eve Gilles.& nbsp;

"Raising the level in mathematics is a very big priority for us in the context of the clash of knowledge&quot ;, affirms Gabriel Attal. And among the "absolute priorities" of the Prime Minister is that to encourage more young girls, too many of whom "s'self-censor" to engage in scientific and mathematics courses.

"An ambassador who is the best of all"

To carry this message, Gabriel Attal is counting on the support of an "ambassador who is the best of all" : Eve Gilles, elected Miss France 2024 and second year undergraduate student in mathematics and computer science applied to the human and social sciences. 

"I noticed in my promotion at university that there are still too few women. Besides girls, in maths as in everything else, never let anyone tell you that you can't do it", continues the 21-year-old Northerner, who wants to become statistician.

A report submitted in February 2023 to the Minister of National Education at the time, Pap Ndiaye, highlighted the anxiety of the girls to explain their rejection of matter. But Miss France encourages all those who would like to embark on mathematical studies "Never let anyone tell you that you can't do it (…) I know our strength, our ability to move mountains. When you have a goal, you can achieve it. Let us be many to commit to these careers that shape the world of tomorrow".
