Desecrated cemetery in a small village in Aude: coffins and vaults found open, what we know

In the Belcaire cemetery, in Aude, five vaults and around ten coffins were found open during the week between Christmas and New Year.

Individuals desecrated the cemetery of the small village of Belcaire, in Aude, during the week of December 25 to 31, 2023, according to information from our colleagues at L'Independent. 

Vaults and open coffins

Five vaults as well as ten coffins were opened, according to the daily.

Gendarmes of Belcaire and scientific services intervened but no comments have been made at this time.

Closed cemetery

The Carcassonne public prosecutor's office indicated that it had opened an investigation into violations of graves.

The cemetery of this rural Aude commune of approximately 370 inhabitants is closed until further notice.
