He donated his sperm for research: 45 years later, a man rings his house introducing himself as his son

A Belgian doctor and professor of obstetrics allegedly used the sperm of several students intended for a study, with the aim of conceiving at least two children.

The affair broke out after a 45-year-old man began searching for its true origins.

He had just learned that his parents had used a sperm donor and was able, thanks to an international DNA database, to get in touch with his half-brother and his biological father. The latter then knew nothing about artificial inseminations.

First case of its kind

After finding the doctor in charge of his procreation, the forty-year-old communicated his name to his real father who "n’has never authorized the use of his sperm for other purposes" than research.

The doctor, fertility specialist and professor at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) would have in fact used the sperm of students, as part of a study on male fertility carried out in the 1970s, without their authorization to conceive at least two children, reports De Standaard this Friday. He died in 2016.
