On December 29, the 80-year-old man who was driving on the emergency lane was intercepted by the gendarmes.

An octogenarian was arrested on Friday December 29 by the gendarmes of the Grand-Gallargues motorway platoon, while he was driving in the wrong direction on the A54 motorway.

Intercepted by the military between Arles and Bellegarde, after having traveled 8 kilometers on the emergency lane, the motorist explained that he had turned around due to lack of power pay upon arrival at the toll booth (Arles exit).

The person concerned, a European national who miraculously did not cause any accident, was briefly placed in police custody for endangering the lives of others, before to finally be let free by the military.
