" They leave the country one by one, to go and earn their living, far from the land where they were born,
they had been dreaming of it for a long time, of the city and its secrets, of Formica and cinema. "
The words of Jean Ferrat are perhaps no longer as relevant as in 1964 and the next International Day of Forests (*) will be an opportunity to measure their obsolescence.
Sunday March 24, in Portes, then in Saint-Jean-du-Pin, members of the Hérault Gard National Forestry Office (ONF) are offering a series of activities around forestry. tree as part of an event founded by the UN in 2011.
Meeting with a shepherd, firefighters,
agents of the ONF…
Its Gard version, for this first edition, offers a morning focused on knowledge, through numerous stands scattered around the Serre des Andats site in Portes.
The presentation of logging will be detailed by ONF agents, silvopastoralism during a meeting with a shepherd or even the fight against fires via the firefighters.
The afternoon is built on the theme of discovery around the remains of the Château de Sauvages, in Saint-Jean-du-Pin.
Two trails will be inaugurated for the occasion (3 p.m.), a botanical one in the heart of the arboretum, then a forestry one in the Rouvergue forest area. A treasure hunt for little ones and a guided tour by the Graine de Jade association will round off this day of discovery of the world of trees.
