A successful bet this Tuesday, June 11 in Nîmes for the representatives of left-wing political parties, unions and associations, who had launched a call for a rally for the new Popular Front formalized Monday evening on the national level. More than 1 500 citizens responded to the call with hope.

If the news resonated like a wave of hope for the women and men of the left, with the official announcement of the creation of a Popular Front, this Monday, June 10 in the evening, discussions were in full swing throughout France.

In Nîmes, Tuesday evening, to celebrate hope, there were more than 1,500 people meeting in front of Carré d’Art, to say "No to the RN& ;quot;. Moreover, from the start of the day we seemed to appreciate being a few steps ahead of the great ambient hullabaloo. "We are used to working together on a local level since the last departmental elections", noted Vincent Bouget, chief leader of the left-wing municipal opposition and first federal member of the Gard Communist Party. "Now we are awaiting the outline of a program to be applied in the first 100 days in government which must be disclosed by tomorrow evening (Wednesday 12  June, Editor's note). It is not enough to propose a union and stand up against the RN, but we must above all respond to the social demands of our fellow citizens".

Take a seat

As the leader of the PCF with microphone in hand, facing the crowd, emphatically recalled, "l’ time for resistance and the offensive. The risk is immense! No Pasaran !" No time to procrastinate too much. However, taking care not to betray yourself in an emergency. The decision of the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, to dissolve the National Assembly following the results of the European elections which placed the extreme right at the top of the bill in France, has, to say the least accelerated time, discussions, alliances and positions.

Because it’s all about taking a seat now. If the media scene is teeming with questions about the magic potion that could dissolve weeks of bitterness and internal battles between the various actors of the left, those mainly concerned have decided to put the pretenses on fire. Like Pierre Jaumain, first federal member of the PS, who declared, " we are the heirs of the Song of the Partisans. We are women and men standing up, ready to confront the black order. Because no, it is not inexorable that the RN will win in the next legislative elections." Reached by telephone earlier, Nicolas Nadal, secretary of the Nîmes section of the PS, although cautious, put his leg: "It is our duty to take our responsibilities in the face of the rise of the RN. Obviously unity is essential. It’is indisputable."

"Know how to find the essentials"

For Vincent Bouget, it is also urgent to act: "We must submit our applications no later than this Sunday 16  June. And provide the official material on Tuesday June 18, at 6 p.m. at the latest. It’s extremely short. So let's be clear, the situation and the context do not allow anyone to be 100% reassured. These are the horrors of political life. And indeed, on the left, we will not all go on vacation together. But is this the important thing?? Isn't the urgency to act in the face of the seriousness of the situation?? We prove that’ rsquo;in the event of a deep crisis and immediate danger, we know how to get together on the essentials. It is now up to us to mobilize so that all European abstainers go to the polls on June 30 and July 7."
