The Olympic champion and former sports minister said he was in favor of an LR-RN alliance on Tuesday June 18. A statement which provoked the ire of his successor.

The Minister of Sports Amélie Oudéa-Castéra was indignant at the words of former Olympic champion Guy Drut, referring to his "deprivation", after that’ he declared himself in favor of an alliance between The Republicans (LR), the party from which he comes, and the National Rally (RN), in an interview published Tuesday in Le Monde.

"I remain and I will vote Les Républicains, Éric Ciotti tendency, because I approve of the union of the rights and the alliance with the National Rally (RN)", declared the former Minister of Sports under the government of Alain Juppé (1995-1997) in this interview, twelve days before the first round of the legislative elections.

"The Munich attacks in 1972 did not prevent the Games"

Questioned about the consequences that the arrival of an RN government could have during the Paris Olympics (July 26-August 11), Guy Drut, member of the board of directors of the organizing committee of the Olympic Games, was reassuring."The Olympic Games are going to go well. The attacks in Munich in 1972 did not prevent the Games from taking place. There is no reason for things to go badly with an RN government", declared the former RPR MP, 1976 Olympic champion in the 110 m hurdles .

Remarks which provoked indignation from Amélie Oudéa-Castéra on X (formerly twitter): "What a decline. The new recruits of the RN are in her image: all inconsistency and inconsistency", she published. "Guy Drut's comments are his own responsibility", the committee of & rsquo;organization of the Games.

Criticism towards Kylian Mbappé

Guy Drut also criticized in this interview the recent positions of footballers Kylian Mbappé and Marcus Thuram, notably pointing out "political correctness" of the first. "I don't understand the speech of Marcus Thuram, who denounces one extreme but not the other", is surprised- he said two days after the Milanese attacker called to block the National Rally. "If Marcus Thuram, who plays in Milan, does not feel comfortable in this country, let him play in England or elsewhere", added Guy Drut.
