Scooter rapist in Grenoble: a 22-year-old young man indicted after a series of attacks

A 22-year-old man was indicted this Sunday, April 7, in connection with the case of the "scooter rapist" who sowed psychosis in Grenoble. 

The suspect arrested Friday in the case of the "scooter rapist" has been indicted Sunday in particular for two rapes and an attempted rape, his lawyer told AFP.

This 22-year-old man, confused by his DNA in one of the rapes, "was indicted for two rapes, one attempted rape, one attempted sexual assault, two aggravated acts of violence and one attempted aggravated extortion& ;quot;, specified his lawyer Me Arnaud Lévy Soussan.

Presented to an investigating judge

The man, who was actively sought after the victims' report, was presented to an investigating judge late Sunday afternoon and was to be taken in the early evening before the judge of freedoms and detention.

He requested time to prepare his defense, his lawyer said. Grenoble public prosecutor Eric Vaillant plans to hold a press conference on Monday at 9:30 a.m. on this case which has generated a form of psychosis in Grenoble.

A judicial investigation was opened on March 29 for seven acts: two rapes, an attempted rape, a sexual assault and violence committed between February 8 and March 16.

Resident of Fontaine, the man was taken into police custody on Friday afternoon and confused "on one of the cases which the public prosecutor's office has seized the investigating judge" by a DNA expertise carried out urgently, according to the Grenoble public prosecutor's office.

The investigation concerns, in detail, two rapes committed in Grenoble and Saint-Martin-d'Hères on March 11 and 16, and an attempted rape on March 16 in Grenoble, a sexual assault and armed violence on February 17 in Grenoble, an extortion attempt on February 8 in Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux and, the same day, violence in Grenoble, detailed the prosecutor Eric Vaillant.

Two other facts which were initially the subject of connections with these cases were finally dismissed by the investigators, the investigations carried out not allowing them to be attributed to the accused.

But according to information from Dauphiné Libéré confirmed by the prosecutor, an eighth victim could be added to the list, a young woman attacked on the night of December 16 to 17. ;2023. The latter filed a complaint on Thursday, indicating that she believed she had been attacked by the wanted suspect.
