While searching for a missing sixty-year-old woman this Tuesday, May 28, authorities in Texas (United States) discovered the human remains of a woman. ;in the mouth of an alligator at the edge of a lake in the Horsepen Bayou district, indicates NBC.

The reptile was killed

Officers in Houston (Texas) were looking for a woman in her sixties missing in the area, when they came across a alligator holding human remains in its jaws.

"Patrol officers located the remains of a woman in the jaws of an alligator in Horsepen Bayou… as they searched the area for a missing woman", Houston police said in a news release Wednesday.

An officer decided to shoot the reptile to death "to prevent it from causing more harm damage to the remains", in his mouth, added the police.

The victim's husband had reported her missing

The body does belong to the missing woman according to the agents who do not yet know if the alligator killed the sixty-year-old or if she was already dead when the animal fell on her.

The victim's husband had reported her disappearance earlier on Tuesday morning, explaining that his wife had gone for a walk on Monday around 7:30 p.m. and n  ;rsquo;had never returned, reports NBC.

An investigation has been opened and an autopsy must take place to determine the circumstances of death.
