Un début d'incendie s'est produit ce mardi 5 mars, dans un contexte de fortes tensions politiques au sein de la commune gardoise.  

Shortly before 7 p.m., while returning to the Town Hall to work on files, the mayor of the commune of Pont-Saint -Esprit, Claire Lapeyronie, found the front door of the building engulfed in flames.

"I immediately called the fire department. They intervened very quickly to contain the fire and secure the building", the city councilor reported on the social network Facebook.

The police also came to the scene. An investigation has been opened which will determine whether or not it was an arson. This incident occurs in a context of strong political tensions in Pont-Saint-Esprit. After a wave of resignations within her municipal council, Claire Lapeyronie confirmed on February 21 that early municipal elections would have to be quickly organized.

"I hope this isn't campaign related. It's off to a bad start…,” confided Claire Lapeyronie this Tuesday evening, who announced that she was going to file a complaint on Wednesday March 6. "According to experts, this would be a malicious act .
