The Zonta Club Nîmes Romaines flea market returns to avenue Jean-Jaurès on April 28

La trente-quatrième édition du plus grand déballage nîmois renoue avec les allées, dix-huit ans après un départ en raison des travaux d’aménagement.

Quite a symbol: on Sunday April 28, the Zonta Club Nîmes Romaines will launch the garage sale season on Avenue Jean-Jaurès. He who, from 1991 to 2005, made the heyday of the artery, attracting thousands of bargain hunters between Taureau and Jardins de la Fontaine with each major unpacking. Was it not said, at the time, that this flea market was the largest in France, behind that of Lille ?

Las, in 2006, the archaeological excavations, preludes to the development of the avenue, chased the service club from its favorite place. Head to the Cap Costières car park. "Today, the future of Casino being uncertain, we took the opportunity to return to the Jean-Jaurès, explains Maryline Brun-Gillet, the l’ one of the organizers. We held a vote among our members and the majority voted for this return. We have obtained authorization from the town hall." 

At the same time, the loyal exhibitors were warned: nothing to disorient them since, from the first days of opening of reservations, 80 locations found takers.

In 2002, a record number of 478 exhibitors

"Contrary to what we had established at Cap Costières, the car cannot be parked right next to it. We will move from Place Séverine to Place Jules-Gueste." In short, a whole new organization that a large majority of the team has mastered however: many were there in the heyday of the 90s, when garage sales were not yet in fashion. "We started with 50 exhibitors in 1991 to build up up to 478 in 2002, a year of all records." And Maryline Brun-Gillet to remember: &quot ; At that time, there were 300 of them competing for places on the Pantel side, where we were in the shade in the afternoon! At first, there were no reservations, and we cleaned the place ourselves in the evening."
What remains today is to inform not only the people who will unpack, but also the people of Nîmes in search of good deals, who had become accustomed to heading towards the shopping center. "We are sending emails. And, then this year, we're going to test."

 Final clarification: it is already possible to register for this event which finances Zonta's actions towards women and girls, particularly in the field of education.
