Vogo launches into all fields in the fight against concussions

The Montpellier-based company has launched a project to detect concussions among young people and amateurs.

For a long time, the Montpellier company Vogo has been developing tools for sports. A pioneer in innovation for assisting in the detection of concussions, Vogo has placed the health and protection of athletes at the heart of its solutions by developing video technologies for professionals to optimize the effectiveness of existing protocols in assisting with the detection of concussions. Since 2017, it has notably worked alongside the National Rugby League.

From now on, the company wants to put its technological solutions at the service of the amateur world. "We are present worldwide in the professional world with our video products. We set up a consortium, Diaginsport, with several professionals, federations but also clubs, who want to develop products for amateurs and young practitioners", explains Christophe Carniel, the CEO of Vogo.

Video and audio devices

Unlike Top 14 matches, for example, there is not a doctor on each amateur rugby field."We want to set up a video and audio system to allow an almost automated alert on amateur land", explains Christophe Carniel.

Cameras set up at the edge of the pitch could thus detect in real time, with artificial intelligence, whether a player has suffered a concussion. Vogo is also planning a solution with a mobile phone that would analyze the voice of the affected player to assess his condition.

"The objective is to alert and enable the players or young people concerned to be brought to safety", says the Montpellier leader. The company has just raised 800,000 € of the State, the Region and the Metropolis to develop these technologies.

"Concretely, we can put a device integrating cameras and our technology on amateur fields. If the device detects a suspicious shock, you can send an SMS to a member of staff or a doctor on call. The idea is to trigger an alert to keep athletes safe."

In place from 2025 ?

A real revolution which could appear in the amateur world as early as 2025. "We have been working on it for a year and a half. The objective is to carry out field tests with the XIII club of the Dragons Catalans among their youth teams but also several amateur clubs in the Occitanie region, specifies Christophe Carniel.

"We have just renewed our partnership with the NRL, there is real awareness around concussions. Many other federations are knocking on the door to benefit from our products", he assures. Here too, clubs will need to be informed and made aware of these issues.
