War in Ukraine: “A 7-year-old, a 4-year-old, a baby…” seven dead in a terrible Russian strike

Dans la nuit de vendredi à samedi 10 février 2024, sept personnes ont perdu la vie après des frappes russes en Ukraine. Le premier bilan déplore la présence de trois enfants parmi les victimes. 

A series of nighttime strikes left seven people dead in Ukraine during the night from Friday to Saturday. Our colleagues from France Info report that Russian attacks killed several children in the Kharkiv region, a report announced by the AFP. 

Three children among the victims

The governor of the region,  Oleg Sinegoubov, confirmed the disastrous news on the social network Telegram. In a sober message, he deplores the death of three children, "one aged 7, one aged 4 and a baby aged around six months"." ;nbsp;

The mayor of the city of Kharkiv, particularly affected, describes the circumstances of the tragedy. Igor Terekhov explains that the strikes "caused a spill of fuel ignited, which caused the fire of fourteen private houses". 

Several strikes in the night

And if it was the spilling of this flaming fuel which caused the most victims, it was not the only attack deplored by the Ukrainian authorities. From the city of Kharkiv to around a hundred kilometers to the east, Russian strikes have scarred the region and displaced dozens of people.

"At six o'clock, the fight to extinguish the flames continued", said the police chief of Kharkiv,  Volodymyr Timochko, to the newspaper Suspilne.

"In the last 24 hours, 111 fights took place. In total, the enemy carried out 73 airstrikes and launched 76 attacks using rocket salvo systems on the positions of our troops and on populated areas", reports the General Staff of the Ukrainian forces on Facebook.
