With PàP, Objectif Image Montpellier introduces you to photography and beyond

Jean-Michel Verdan est, avec Pierre Soyer, l’un des animateurs de cet atelier. Midi Libre – CODO

This season, the workshop imagined by the association goes beyond the scope of shooting by publishing a photozine. The third of five planned issues has just come off the presses.

"What is photography ?" Answering this question borders on a philosophical act. More pragmatic although no less contemplative, Pierre Soyer and Jean-Michel Verdan, two of the kingpins of the Objectif Image association, decided, once again, to respond. With their own chemistry and connections.

This by offering a new photo workshop to around ten trainees, both lay people and slightly more informed amateurs. Which, this time, is not enough just to take a shot. Proof: with Prêt à photographe (PàP), they launched the creation of a photozine. Which is to the instant what the fanzine is to the comic strip.

Running over the equivalent of the school year, this work begins with an imposed theme and ends with the edition of forty-six pages in 21x15cm format in which each ;has two double pages. So here is a workshop with a real physical result. Even more so through this need to take an interest in editing, layout and writing to move towards the finished product.

For this third issue (distributed these days), the focus has been revised upwards with this new theme. Which required bokeh users to take photos using a disposable camera. So, silver. "So, it was a little complicated…", says Jean-Michel Verdan. Who, with this return to the near past, realized that people no longer knew how to photograph, like measuring light for example. Because there, the disposable requires us to think".

In the end, however, the result (admittedly variable) is there. And the product, rather well finished and nicely packaged. And is offered for sale covertly (or almost) in the Beaux-Arts district or via the association (*) for around eight euros. As for number four, it will focus on the urban.
