Une délégation de responsables du Front de libération nationale kanak et socialiste (FLNKS) s’est présentée sur le Larzac.

Since the first arrival of Jean-Marie Tjibaou in 1985 until today, Larzac has always supported the movement for the independence of Kanaky. In the current context which led to the riots in New Caledonia following the vote to thaw the electorate on May 13, the Association for the Promotion of ;Agriculture sur le Larzac (Apal) received on the land given by Larzac to the Kanak people, a delegation of officials from the Kanak and Socialist National Liberation Front (FLNKS).

An "important moment in this place which is for us the Kanaky embassy in France" recalled the former MEP and member of Apal, José Bové. "A moment of sharing, because of the events you are experiencing these days, because of this desire to make you a minority in your own country by changing the electoral body. Because you came here to tell us what you are going through and how you expect support."

A common support that dates back to the early 1980s when the Kanak independence leader, Jean-Marie Tjibaou, joined the fight of Larzac activists to prevent the extension of a military camp on the plateau. "The first time I came, straight away, I felt this communion, this sharing. When the earth sticks to your skin, when there is a struggle for the earth, we are united, the Kanak leader opened up, during his first visit to Larzac, June 18, 1988.

He, a few days later, will accept dialogue with Paris by signing the Matignon Accords to chart the path to smooth decolonization. Jean -Marie Tjibaou will be assassinated on May 4, 1989 with Yeiwéné Yeiwéné, his right arm in the FLNKS, during the commemoration of the takeover ;hostages from Ouvéa.
