In Saint-Étienne-du-Valdonnez, poorly controlled burning led to the intervention of the Lozère firefighters

Approximately three hectares burned after the burnout lost control. Free Midi – FREDERIC AMADON

Around three hectares of undergrowth went up in smoke this Sunday, April 14, 2024, on the Col de Montmirat.

While fire burning is prohibited from Monday April 15, 2024, some took advantage of this last weekend to do one. On the Col de Montmirat, in Saint-Étienne-du-Valdonnez, a firestorm degenerated, probably due to the wind which picked up in the middle of the afternoon. Firefighters were called at 4:20 p.m. to bring the situation under control and stop the flames from spreading into the undergrowth. Despite everything, three hectares went up in smoke.

25 firefighters mobilized

In total, 25 firefighters from Mende, La Canourgue, Florac, Valdonnez and Collet-de-Dèze intervened.
