The chase with the police ends in tragedy: the fugitive commits suicide while driving with a gun

Thursday June 27, 2024 was the scene of a chase on the RN88 whose outcome was dramatic, in the Tarn.

A chase with a dramatic outcome. While the gendarmes were chasing a fugitive who had refused to comply on the RN88, Thursday June 27, 2024, the individual was found dead in his vehicle.

Between Albi and Rodez

France 3 reports that’a motorist driving a van refused to comply  at Garric, at the exit of Albi. Before fleeing, the driver hit the gendarmerie vehicle, according to our colleagues. The chase also involving the gendarmerie bikers  lasted several kilometers on the RN88, towards Rodez.

The individual, driving a van, had nothing to reproach himself for since, as Actu Occitanie reveals, quoting the public prosecutor of Albi, Stéphanie Bazart, it was a’classic roadside check : the driver had not  no offense committed.

Our colleagues add that the fugitive stopped his route at Pampelonne. It was as they stopped at his level that the gendarmes heard a shot: the man they were chasing had just committed suicide at the wheel of his vehicle. France 3 specifies that the weapon used would be a 12 caliber shotgun.

According to La Dépêche du Midi, more than one thirty gendarmes were mobilized for this intervention, which caused a interruption of traffic in the sector, during this Thursday.

Last turbulent days

Aged around fifty years, this man was far from being unknown to the police : the magistrate revealed to our colleagues that he had already been arrested a few days earlier. This former soldier had caused the village of Saint-Lieux-lès-Lavaur (Tarn) to fall into great tension.

La Dépêche du Midi had in fact reported that on June 22, the man ;sent text messages to his partner, in which he allegedly made suicidal remarks. She notified the firefighters. Who, when they presented themselves at the family home, were received with a rifle. It was finally on the morning of June 24 that the madman was arrested.

Actu Occitanie finally mentions that following his custody, the fifty-year-old had been released. Before this chase and this tragic outcome, this Thursday, June 27, 2024.
